Serious Issue

Just joined a WWZ 1.17X game, and I noticed the file name was unprot_wwz1.17x so I quit the game, and tried to open it in the world editor. To my surprise it opened. What the hell happened? Are these maps being leaked? Or is the protection just terrible? This is really annoying because the guy rehosted about 20 times, so it must be spread around a lot. It's one of the new versions, so they can stick cheats and **** into it and call it 1.21X, and no one will notice.

Re: Serious Issue

Anyone can deprotect a map, given time and effort, even DotA isn't beyond the reach of a dedicated person. However, I too have noticed many crappy versions, unprotected, hacked, etc. Maybe its time something was done to increase security on it? Theres more than one way.

Re: Serious Issue

Well triggering it all in Jass is a lot of work but would fubar all triggers in the game if it was deprotected as far as I know.

Re: Serious Issue

Vex's is the best, by far, do you have the maximum protection options checked when you run it? Any map can be deprotected, butVex's should be enough to stop 98% of people. The key is to just keep putting out new versions, if you make them fast enough, its unlikely people will want to take the time deprotect something if they have to do it every other week.

Re: Serious Issue

The fakes are called 2.00, 2.06 and 3.00, so people think they are new. I think you should move over the decimal in the next ver to CRUSH THEM ONCE AND FOR ALL. Example: instead of 1.21X, you put 12.10X.

Re: Serious Issue

I actually played a good fake. It was a catas with all the X updates applied to it. And the guy actually gave you guys credit for everything! And he said it was an "unofficial" version.

Gauci is on a distinguished road
Re: Serious Issue

ive played one of those unofficial maps. wasnt that bad and had unit upgrades for both sides. zombies had multiply upgrades to higher level zombies and humans had a tech center to upgrade there army and also could upgrade "bunkers" to a higher level. had a bunch of made up units (telsa sniper for germany anyone) and also no1 realised that you could upgrade their army and i had to hold out the east and save london from across the chanel, those telsa snipers had like 1800 range and an insane attack.

Re: Serious Issue

Stinger the Cata's version 1.20 has all the X changes applied to it, with the exception of changes to starting units and countries which are inapliccable because they're balance changes unique to the X versions set up.

King Leopold I've been checking all the protection options to minimalize risk of deprotection ever since the first fakes based off of version 1.09 started coming out.

Re: Serious Issue

Not sure if this is even possible, but you could write half of the triggers in GUI and half in JASS! You might even mix a couple of normal triggers in there to further confuse the hell out of them!

And now, directly from chip's signature...

Sling is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Serious Issue

People have deprotected Dota before, and often, but it doesn't matter because there isn't much to add to it. The reason people deprotect maps are normally an attempt to make it better, or rigged. Rarely rigged, they don't mean to mess up the map most of the time, just to make it funner. IF you keep new versions with tons of changes every week or two like in Dota, it should stop. This map is by far the map I see fake versions with the most out of any other game.

(Other than games no longer getting updates.)

In other words, the map isn't good enough for people, and they want to make it better. Fix to the problem? Jump on it more so. Maybe you don't have time, well, then they will keep doing their their doing.

Just tellin' it like it is.

Re: Serious Issue

Often, newbs will try to make a quick pass at a map, see how easily they can rip it, list it as a new version, then rig it or make it easier in some way for themselves.

Personally, I try to deprotect maps like DotA simply to see what makes them tick, how certain abilities and triggers work, because thats what helps me learn better, seeing them in action and knowing how it works behind the scenes.

Re: Serious Issue

Sling I understand what you're getting at and I plead guilty. I have indeed had very little time and thus have been slow about new versions. I'm hoping to release 1.21 this weekend. Anyways school year is almost over. I should have more time during the summer.
