Lemon's Map Ratings

I constantly play maps on TFT, often trying to find the newest, most original games, or just the best in their category. Needless to say, duds are found, but so are jewels. In this thread, once a week I'll review a map and post my rating and review here. I'll be digging deep into my maps folder for this!

Title: Jungle Trolls Reborn
Author: Gadina_Prokleta
Website: Something in Bulgarian. Downloadable at hive.
Hive's Rating: 4.5 / 5
Lemon's Rating: 4 / 5

Review: Jungle Trolls Reborn is a game which is hard to describe. If I had to summarize it, I'd say it's a survival game. As one can imagine, it is much like Island Troll Tribes and Jungle Troll Tribes. It goes much further though. There are 4 very different main classes -

Shaman - which can use lvl1 items, which restricts it in combat. Has a healing spell, and starts with a random spell book. Is the only class which can harness magic. Can eat herbs for higher benefit. Has a highest energy max, loses heat fastest.

Inventor - which can use lvl2 items, still restricted in combat. Can deconstruct buildings, making them back into their recipe ingredients. Starts with a firecamp kit. Is the only class which can use guns. Loses heat and energy slowest.

Hunter - which can use lvl3 items, doesn't feel restricted. Can tame wild animal cubs, which can be raised as in a farm-like environment, or as hunting pets. Starts with a net. Can eat raw meat with more benefit. The hunter has the highest food max. Loses heat, energy and food at regular rate.

Warrior - can use all lvl items, great in hand to hand combat. Starts with the ability to craft weapons. Starts with either a lvl2 spear or lvl2 axe. Becomes a serious tank later in game. Has highest damage and health. Loses food quickest. Can equip strongest armor and weapons.

Along with a fifth subclass.

Dire Troll - can use lvl3 items. Not much to be said about this class. Can't craft anything, unlike the other four classes. Has a smaller inventory. Basically useless, just don't use it.

As in the other Troll games, there are certain recipes you can use to make buildings, items, etc. In Jungle Troll Tribes each class has two types of crafting.

Basic Crafting - uses mainly stone, wood, tinder and flint. Every class (excluding Dire Troll) has Basic Crafting. Makes basic buildings like Fire Camp, Troll Hut, Tents, etc. Also makes buildings which contain more recipes including, Shaman Hut, Inventor's Workshop, Hunter's Tannery and Warrior's Armory. Which allows everyone at least some access to Class-Specific recipes.

Class Crafting - ingredients vary, can use regular composites, can also use already crafted items, may also use rarer composites (like Mana Stones, Oil, Herbs). Class crafting is different for each class. Some class crafted items only benefit the class that can make them (Spellbooks, Guns, Lvl4 items). Others can be beneficial for others as well (Lvl3- items, potions). And others can be combined with composites and/or another class' class crafted items to make better items (Linen Cloth).

Basic crafting keeps you alive, Class crafting enhances your life.

In Jungle Troll Tribes you rely on variation. A team with one of each class will probably do better than a team of warriors. For example, without a Shaman when you get poisoned or get infected with Malaria, you just have to wait for it to run its course, possibly killing you. Also without a Shaman you can't get a cauldron, which can be used to cook food better than a fire. Hunters can hunt better than anyone else, bringing in food for the tribe, Warriors keep your tribe well defended from other tribes, Shaman keep you healthy and provide magical support in battle, and Inventors can make vehicles and towers which help with defense and exploration/offensives.

In Jungle Troll Tribes you must survive by keeping your food, health, energy, and heat up. If your food hits 0, you begin starving and lose hp over time. If your energy hits 0, you go into a coma until your energy raises back up, coma makes your food and heat go down faster. If your heat hits 0, you begin to freeze, making your hp go down over time. If your hp hits 0 for any reason, you die. Freezing, starving, poison and malaria can all make your hp hit 0.

Jungle Troll Tribes adds together survival and arena ideas into a nice game. Most importantly, the game is challenging, even without opponents. The more teammates you have the easier some things become; whereas, finding enough food and other composites is harder.

The Lemon Shake Down:

Positives~

Fairly unique game play. +1

Challenging. +2

Hundreds of recipes. +1

Fun gameplay. +1

Negatives~

Bad lag after so long. -1

Meaning? 4 / 5 - One of my favs.

Rev gave DotA a good score in HWS. Think he stopped his reviews, however.

I'm sorry I will not be reviewing DoTA. I dislike it to a high degree and my review would just be biased. Maybe I'll change my mind eventually, but for now I'm going to decide on not reviewing it.

On a less serious note, this is the best tea I've ever had!

Honestly,i dont know why people hate doTa SO much, its not that bad if you give it a chance, it can be very fun when played with friends, only downside to it is the regular hosts are generally as-sholes.

Re: Lemon's Map Ratings

Reasons I dislike DotA:

1) Terrible community (as myth so lovingly put it ***holes)
2) Mediocre game play. I'm not saying that DotA sucks, I'm just saying for how popular it is/has been it should be much much better.
3) Popular despite #2 and #1
4) Its popularity has, in the past, strangled other maps (if most people are playing DotA, who's gonna play TGS?).

Also, this thread isn't about why anyone dislikes DotA. So let's get past that.
