MrApples has a spectacular aura about
Some Cleaning Tools

A set of some free little tools that everyone should have on their computer:
  • ComboFix - Malware remover. Very powerful, saves status log.
  • HijackThis - Registry scanner. Scans for possibly corrupt changes, saves a status log also.
  • Killbox - Used to 'kill' files/processes, even if in use.
  • Alternating Data Steams Spy (ADSSpy) - scans the 'meta' content of your drives.
  • Brute Force Uninstaller [Untested] - Used to force uninstall certain programs.
  • JK Defrag [Recommended] - Defragments and optimizes your drives, 30X or faster than the Windows built-in.
  • xMapBackup [Untested] - Backs up your drive in xMap format.
  • CCleaner [Recommended] - Cleans out your computer of extra data, including temp files, cookie, cached pages and much more. Works as a great History Cleaner.
Here you are, make sure to post your experience with these tools.

Re: Some Cleaning Tools

I also suggest Defraggler - by the same people as CCleaner. By the way, NEVER use Norton's registry fixer, as it cannot create incremental backups. CCleaner is the best tool I have ever used on a PC - it is tiny, and can be portable and it is very powerful and safe. It's also one of the few high quality open source projects (along with firefox of course, although openoffice isn't quite up to my standards yet as the dictionaries are FKed if you opt to choose something other than US-EN). Sorry for the minor ranting.

Used to Use CCLEANER, Until I found all those nasty little open TCP ports it was using. CLosed em down and the pgm quit? (Hmm, Makes one wonder)...

Re: Some Cleaning Tools

It's an open source program like Firefox, so everything it is doing is available to you to change or look at in the source code. It uses those ports to check for updates, since it's a lightweight program and can't really have it's own update manager.
