Good Books for a dutch guy

Well, i am out of good books i haven't read already more then 3 times... I was thinking to find some fun english books, to boost my english and to read a good book. So can some of you tell me the best books, i really need to read?? I really like Things like Harry Potter and Lotr series.. and eragonso in global terms, fantasy. And of course big battles, mighty heroes and romantic stories ( but not too much ) Thanks in advance

Song of Ice and Fire has big battles, a few heroes (but mostly gray characters), and some romance...it's darker than most typical fantasy but pretty good. Would you be reading it in English or Dutch? I can't remember whether or not I've heard that the Dutch translation is one of the good or bad translations...Wheel of Time is decent too, especially the early volumes, and Malazan Book of the Fallen is a tad confusing, but pretty good as well.

Well there are others, I just can't think of them right now. Some of the magic the gathering books were okay for a light read, and...I don't read that many books. But ASOIAF is 4 books right now with a 5th coming within a year hopefully, Malazan is at 7, WoT is at 11 with the final one coming fairly soon if the author lives, Althalus is one book, and Dragonlance books are numerous. So thats a lot of to start with while we try to think of more.

Re: Good Books for a dutch guy

this book isn't fantasy (past lord of the rings and harry potter i'm not much into those) but it is the best book i have ever read: all quiet on the western front. it's translated from german so (according to my dad) it will be easier for people who speak english as a second language to understand.
