Don't you just have to love them?

Personally I've married Hypothetical Situations (hypothetically of course ).

Here's one to start you off (remember it's hypothetical):

You're walking down the street when you see a burning building. Out of a feeling of good citizenry, you rush into the burning building. You realize it's a fertility clinic. Inside everyone is dead except for one little girl (age 5-8) and she's hardly conscious. You grab her and race for the door. Nearly out the door you notice another door labelled "Human Embryos". Inside you can see a cooler of embryos (let's just say there are 100 embryos within). You can only save one of them, either the cooler or the little girl.

Choose which and explain why (note: don't try looking for loopholes, I'll just close them for you , this is really a beliefs thing).

After a couple of people have replied, I'll type up my answer to this (not necessarily the "right" answer, just what I'd do in this situation).

Id save the girl.. because you can reproduce embryos.. reproducing that same girl is.. well out of our capability atm.

The girl would take top priority. I probably wouldn't give a damn to go back to get the embryos even if there was enough time.

Hypothetically, if you're hanging above a burning vat of acid and being threatened to give up information that could possibly help the guy threatening you get at people you know, would you...

A)Tell him and get out of there

B)Let your secret die with you

C)Lie. (he has a 50% chance of catching you)

D)Call in the government, stopping him, but killing you.

Most definitely option C.

B and D involving being burnt alive in a vat of acid, no thanks. Plus, martyrdom is overrated and by giving up so easily not much has been solved since, if the "people you know" are worth saving then the damage has already been dealt with my hypothetical sacrifice. As for A, well, in the spirit of altruism, I'll decline and so that leaves option C. If there is a chance that both parties come out alive then I'll take that chance even if it means the creation of the probability that both might fall.

You're walking home from work or school, when suddenly you see this guy mug an old lady! What do you do?

a) Help the guy (75% chance being arrested)
b) Help the old lady (50% to get beat up or die)
c) Keep Walking
d) Call the cops (25% you get shot, 25% the guy runs away, 25% the old lady dies first, and 25% of the guy being arrested)

Wow I did not check this one fast enough.
1)To my question, I'd pick the girl because embryos cannot feel pain.
2)To king's first question, I'll have to say C, I don't think you were specific enough for me to choose anything else and justify it.
3)T king's second question, definitely not A, and also not C, I have to say B because D has, really, like a 75% total chance of the guy just getting away with it.

Stubbys first - A, 'getting' at people I know is hardly threatening. On the same note, its possible to, after escaping unharmed, retaliate with better force because a) you've been captured once, you know the technique and b) tell those friends that this guy is gonna 'get at' them, there is some more reinforcements

Stubbys second - By making it into a statistic situation, you are pretty much ruling out the ethos of the situation.. I'd choose D mainly because I doubt the guy is going to shoot me if he is preoccupied with an old lady. Then I would B to pass time as 1) the cops came and 2) had the chance to do it myself without the help of the incompetent with a gun.

Here is one to think on..
You have this friend named Matt. You've known Matt since before you can remember, you were born in the same hospital 2 hours apart, and both your and Matts parents were best friends in High School to present day. One day you find out some psycho guy that you and Matt made fun of all through elementary school, middle school, and high school has kidnapped Matt and demands to talk with only you or Matt will die. Going on impulse, you go to the desired location set forth by this psycho (that we will call Dave). At the location, you see Dave holding Matt hostage, and he demands that you go out and kill 10 random people to save the life of your one true friend.
Would you
A) Attempt to take down Dave in an attempt to save both yours and Matts life, with high risk that Matt and you will die.
B) Tell Dave to kill Matt
C) Kill 10 people
D) Request you be killed in place of Matt
E) Undress and run crazy until Dave kills both you and possibly Matt, but you would never know if Matt died because you would die first, whereas after the scenario, the cops bust in, gun down Dave, and see your naked lifeless body laying on the ground wondering what had happened.

Notes - Dave's weapon of choice is a pistol

I would choose E... it only makes sense.

Since Matt is hypothetical...B. I understand we're good friends and all, but I'm sure a good friend such as he would rather one of us live than neither of us. (that or E, because naked running is fun)

Know heres one to ponder at.

You and a Girl you have hated all of your life are the last people on earth, and are stranded on a desert island. The girl also despises you down to the last inch of your body. She also has a pistol. You have a ring. Shes is threatining to kill herself if you come near her. Your the world's last hope for survival what would you do?

A: part seperate ways and dye eventually
B: Try to talk it out with her (25% she will walk away, 25% she will kill you, 25% she will understand what ur saying, 25% chance of her suicide
C: Rape her(50% chance of u dying, 25% chance of her suicide 25% chance of succeding
D:Propose to her(25% chance of working 75% chance of suicide)
E:Kill Her (100% chance of dooming the world, 50% chance you die 50% she survives)

I would make a present out of available materials as a peace offering, give her space until she comes to accept that she is the last hope for survival for Earth. (90% chance it works, 9% chance of suicide, 1% chance there's no effect.)

Oh no, not dooming the world at all. If anything it will fix most everything wrong if human beings go poof. I would most certainly choose A, because one, I don't want to take the chance of dying young, and two, screw humanity, it isn't worth it.
