Hosting Help

::Why can't I Host?::
Everything on the internet travels on ports, each different. If you get a router or a firewall, they will block all unnecessary ports for your own protection because hackers can use these ports to get onto your computer easily. The bad part of this is that Warcraft requires some of those unnecessary ports, so thats why you can't host.

Used to be able to but now you can't? Well if you moved and am no longer connected directly to the modem, bought a new router, installed a firewall/turned on existing ones, this is probaly why.

::Before you begin.::
Before you begin the journey to the world of hosting, here is some stuff you should write down.
1) Router's model/model code.
2) Modem's model/model code.
3) Firewall Brand/Version.
4) Network Stats*. (Default Gateway, IP Address, DNS, Subnet Mask)
*To get your Network Stats, go to Start(bottom left) > Run > Type in cmd + Enter > A black box should come up, type in there ipconfig /ALL and press enter > record the information given above.

::For A Router:: - Go to this site and find your Router. it is listed by Brand//Model Code. Once you have found it (or a model similar to it), go down the bottom right(under W) and find Warcraft 3 on the next page. Then follow their instructions on the next page.

Common Problems
1. Static IP Address - Sometimes routers need every computer in the house to have a static IP address, which means it doesn't change automatically. If your computer displays ""Choose a IP Address Automatically" it is not static.

You would have to go into each computer and in settings give them a seperate local IP Address like 10.1.1.101, 10.1.1.102. Make sure it is at least a hundred above the default gateway. You may get a guide on how to do this here.

2. Modem is a Router - Sometimes the modem is a router also and you will have to forward all ports to your router.

::For a Firewall:: - Go to this site and find your Firewall. Click on the link and follow their guide. Remember, Windows XP comes with a firewall.

::If All Else Fails::
If all else fails, go to PortForward's Forum here, sign up, and ask for help. Remember to read the stickies and search for your problem first, as we ask you to do the same here, and to give as much information as possible.

Some other hosting guides...

Re: Hosting Help

lol I have a problem. When I went into Control Panel > Network Connections, there were no Local Area Connections, how exactly do I go about creating one, I'm not talking about setting it(like the Subnet mask, DNS Server, IP Address, and Default Gateway...Windows XP), but actually having one show up so I can configure it to host games on Warcraft III.

Re: Hosting Help

My router is wireless but my internet modem is not. I had a LAN on my old computer but there is none showing on my new computer, there is also another computer hooked up to the router, but that wouldn't get rid of the LAN on this computer. I have no idea.

Re: Hosting Help

It would be best to make a new topic at the sites that are actually have people who are very experienced with hosting help, such as Portforward.com, and Thehelper.net. This is only meant as a introduction, it took me 4 months actually to figure out that my modem was a router, but not long at all to setup the basic procedure so its not that hard.

Re: Hosting Help

You dont always need to turn off your firewall. If you use Windows XP ServicePack2, the firewall that is in the control panel can easilt be configured. Use the following guide...

Control Panel > Security Center > Windows Firewall > Exceptions (tab) > Add Port > Have port number = 6112

There now u can host with your Windows XP ServicePack2 firewall running.

*NOTE* ServicePack2 simply means it has a firewall, such as ServicePack1 did not.

I don't have a router, just a modem. I have a mac, leaving little need for firewall, so it isn't on. I still can't host.

Re: Hosting Help

Usually if you open up ports 6112-6119 and make your firewall only let the firewall not protect those ports. Then you shouldn't have to worry about viruses. But you should also know that you being on the internet at this very moment you can get viruses. Only opening up 8 ports should not make your computer a huge target for viruses.

Re: Hosting Help

1 you can edit your old post. You don't need to make a new one. And often mods and admins often could get angry for that depending on who it is and how they are feeling. Also it's hard to help you with your problem if I don't know what step you don't understand. First if you can copy or give me the link to it. Then it would help. I'm not really an expert in it. But in forums there are many people that can help. I don't need any information other then that until I'm sure I need to know or you can do it yourself.

Posted a tpoic about this on what i thought was general, but it was general about king L maps, linked to this forum though.
http://www.pollama.com/king-leopolds...sting-t3680/0/

The information on www.portforward.com seems clearly enough to me. BUT some types of routers and games the site does not support. The name is in the list but it doesnt load. In this case yr just ****ed

Read the first post in the topic. Portforward.com's url was already posted there. And also Luigi also posted a link that goes directly to the warcraft 3 section for people too lazy to search.

Re: Hosting Help

Ah. The thing about the internet is that you have a harder time telling what the person means because you can't read their expression.

And I just want to say that there will be other problems that prevents you from hosting. Such as I have two computers at my house. And they both use the same router. But only one computer can have its ports forward at a time. And it isn't my computer.
