I need a good guide on how i get SMF to work, i can get the files and all but I can't go much farthure for the most part, there guides are crap... and the guides provide info that needs another guide... so you can see my problem there.

A place to install the forum and a domain name?

Halak, I refrained from answering your PM because your completely underestimating setting up a site.

But there's no real reason to stop ya I guess...

• First of all, you need a host. I may be willing to host you so send me a message with details on your plan. Otherwise, you may want to purchase hosting from HOSTGATOR WEB HOSTING - cPanel, Reseller, and Dedicated Website Hosting .
• Second, you need a domain. You can get a 1-year lease on a domain for about $10 from Internet Domain Name Registration, Domain Transfers. Your domain name search starts here. . Never get your domain with your host.
• Third, you need a good FTP Client. SmartFTP is free and works well, remember to use Auto transfer type.
• Fourth, you need to setup a MySQL database on your host.
• Fifth, you need to access your FTP with the client, and upload SMF's files to your server. Run the install file and give it all the information it needs including the Database information.
• And then comes the hard part; have fun .

wow apples, when i sent you a pm askign for help i never got an answer -.-, but the thing is i don't know how to use half the things there and there arent realy good guides for them.

Pretty much this guide at the SMF site is all that you need. I was able to successfully install a forum on my second try from just following this guide. Don't know why you would have such difficultly with it.

Well anyway pretty much I feel that you aren't getting any questions answered so let's do this step by step. Read the guide and post when you get stuck. Then maybe we would have some idea on what you're not getting. Otherwise, we would just be going around in circles.

If you want a free hoster a good one is [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], it comes with cpanel and fantastico (a program that installs SMF right onto your forum without you having to do anything.) When your looking for a hoster, check if they have fantastico, it takes the burden of having to go through a bunch of files to install your forum.
