Spell Revision ideas for Calculator

Really the only problem I have with the Calculator are his spells. His abilties as per FF:T would be possible, I've seen it done on another map, but it's very confusing and I'm sure the programming for it would be a beast. So, in consideration of that, I'm just gonna keep things simple.

His standard is fine as is. Though, in consideration of changes to his spells, doubling or tripling it might be a good idea. Maybe not though, I don't know the lvl breakdown of all the enemies yet.

Anyways, I've seen spells using this model before, so I know it's possible, but not how much work is involved, so forgive my ignorence if it turns a bit hairy.

Unless otherwise Noted, spells hit an entire screen distence, centered on Calculator, but only effect creatures with the apporiate lvl range. (Note: Distence could be gradually increased with each lvl if this seems too OP'd)

Lvl 2 Decrepify - Basically a potent version cripple that effects any enemies in the area of effect with a lvl that is a multiple of 2. Lasts 60 seconds.

Lvl 3 Flare - A HEAVY damaging single target spell that effects any enemies in the area who's lvls are a multiple of 3. In FF, flare deals damage comparable to ultima, so 3/4 - 100% of ultima's single target damage of comparable skill lvls would be ok. I'd go with 3/4 since calculator is lower tier then Sage.

Lvl 4 Holy - Just like holy, but only hits enemies or allies in lvls that are a multiple of 4.

Ultimate - Lvl 5 Death - Up to X enemies who's lvls are a multiple of 5 have a X% chance of instantly dying. Doesn't effect Heroes. Has a 2 minute cooldown. X = 4/8/12 | X% = 30/45/60

Now, typically, the above spells are actually Blue magic, but, the lvl conditions were a part of the calculator's choices for abilties targets, so I feel they would be far more appropriate then it's current spell list.

Some of the spells might seem a bit OP'd, but when you consider how limited one's control over that you're actually hitting, the respective damage or effects are quite balanced.

Well, there it is.

Re: Spell Revision ideas for Calculator

Dude, you practically have no control over what you are hitting. If a boss was a multiple of 2, all you could do is use Decrepify and Holy. And if a level 3 calculator was fighting a pretty strong level 5, he'd be unable to do anything. It's much better the way it is. Firaga Thundaga and Blizzaga, I think? And Mana Regen Plus? Much better and simpler than the way you have it.

To be honest, not a bad idea, but just too complicated, as it would need a trigger, and it would be far too much of a nerf.

Re: Spell Revision ideas for Calculator

A possibility would be to let the skills do MORE damage when the level of the monster is a right multiple. Then we decrease the dmg done on every Monster and add this feature.

So the damage would be:
BaseDamage + extraDMG(based on right level multiple)

I quite like it. Kinda adds a suspense feel in that you don't know what dmg you're going to do, and every spell cast will be an OSH-T moment, when hoping for a big hit, you do close to null, and laugh before you die at your misfortune. No suggestion from me, but perhaps you could change the numbers around a bit so its not always like that
