Custom Hero Class - Choose Your Skills From Mastered Jobs

First, I'm super impressed with the work you guys have done to make an awesome mod. I haven't played WC3 for more than 3 years. I found this map by accident and my friends and I have been playing non-stop for three days now. I searched the submissions board for this and I couldn't find this suggestion, so I apologize before hand if this is a duplicate.

Both FF tactics on the GBA and FF V (jpn) have the ability for you to choose abilities when you master a class. I think this would be a neat addition to an already impressive map. The "custom class" would enable the hero to choose a skill (or set of skills) from any class he mastered.

I found a hero defense map by antistone that is FF tactics based that allows you to select a set of secondary skills to complement your first one. He does a great job of implementing this. He even lets you choose "auras" and different mastery abilities. The link to the map is here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. The best part is that the map isn't protected so you can see how the author did the work. I tried bolting on this functionality but then I realized that the FF Epic RPG map is protected...

So my ask is this... please vote for this feature. If you guys need help, I can always figure out how to add this feature as well. I'm quite capable at writing code and making mods .

Thanks, and I look forward to any future updates!

By default there should be a poll but I don't quite know...

Anyway personal I think that gotta be overpowered to be able to choose your own spells. The possible gaining insane spell combos and such. But lets wait and see what people say.

I think this is an overpowering feature which attacks the balance of all classes, everyone would pick ultima, so he/she dont need to use the dragon wand and can use ultima weapon, in addition the intelligence+ skill from sorcerer = +225 int. So this would be 22,5% more exp.

Then the best critical strike of all jobs or some ultimate skills. you could create an always better class than any other. I dont have all skills in front of me so i cant create the best character now, but it's relly only owerpowering.

I am for customization, too but not in this way.

Re: Custom Hero Class - Choose Your Skills From Mastered Jobs

I just noticed I can vote for my own feature request. I guess I'll refrain from doing that .

Actually the balance point is a good one, but since the player could only choose skills from classes they master, It would seem that this would be more of an endgame scenario. It seems that towards the endgame, only a few classes would be chosen anyways. Also, when you master classes you get huge bonuses to your stats (even more so for ultimate). Users would still be playing all the classes if they want to max out stats.

Towards endgame doesn't everyone chose the sorcerer or holy knight anyways? It seems that while many of the other classes have useful abilities, they are overshadowed by the sheer damage output of the sorc/holy knight. And I haven't seen the archbishop or Heaven Knight class yet but I assume that their damage output is even greater.

You can vote for your own submission.. you are part of the community. Also, you didn't add a poll, try doing that next time.

Re: Custom Hero Class - Choose Your Skills From Mastered Jobs

I think that taking a page out of the Final Fantasy Tactics playbook is in order. You would chose one job that you wish to "Master" or however you wish to word it. Then you would gain all or some of the abilities of that job. This could allow you to make a very specialized class while not giving you all the abilities in the game. You could make a holy swordsman with prophet mana shield and tank extremely well, among other things.

Re: Custom Hero Class - Choose Your Skills From Mastered Jobs

The other way to do this is to allow a combination of mastery for 2/3 Jobs, and players can only mix jobs from their respective Shrines.

That is to say, you cannot mix Holy Swordsman with Sorcerer, buy you can mix Holy Swordsman with Samurai and Thief for example. Reversely, Sorcerer can be mixed with Time Mage and Calculator.

A combination of 2/3 mastery is good enough for cuztomization, and it also limits the overpowering factor.

Also, once completed, the player may not do the quest again. Upon completion, the character is saved into the code and becomes permanent so as to make players truly "specialized" in what they choose to do.

Perhaps add a quest, such as "True Master", to unlock this option. The quest should be moderately to highly difficult to give players the feeling of truly mastering what they want.

Upon "truly mastering" their selected Jobs, they unlock hidden spells for each of their selected class. Players can mix and match all the skills of their mastered Jobs, including the hidden spells, to create their own customized character.

Also, the customized character should gain exp at the rate of 5/10%.

Wouldn´t this be a problem with the now so easy quicky buttons? Lets just say i would want Throw stone and Create potion, both using [Q] as their quick access button. I can see this leading to trouble.

Unless you prohibit use of same "Tier" spells/Skills from the different classes. (As it is in the original FFT games)

Re: Custom Hero Class - Choose Your Skills From Mastered Jobs

This concept definately has potential.

However, I think the classes are all good as they are. With item sets or recipe/materia upgrades to items, I think that will provide enough customization.

IF there were going to be a make your own class from the others you have mastered I would say it doesn't get any of the mastery stat/health/mana bonuses. So you could make your SUPER hero, with all the spells you wanted but he wouldn't be overpowered because he wouldn't have as many stats.

If I had to choose because only so many things can be worked on, I would want first: item set system, second: recipe (materia item upgrades), third: custom hero.
