Pollama dying?

I think pollama is slowly dying for multiple reasons. The big reason is map makers not caring or being interested anymore like MrApples. No offence but u dont care anymore and maps are wat brought people here in the first place. U are a great map maker and Ultimate footies was a good map but u kinda stopped it and people get tired of the same stuff. If you continued it like make an update every week then i think more people would play it. Hes not the only one tho. Another problem is people who do like 4 maps at a time... It doesnt work.

Does anyone agree whether its for the same reasons or not

Re: Pollama dying?

I don't know, I was planning on making a map and hopefully having a forums n **** in Pollama, but I gave up on it. I really don't think the forums are dying or anything, theres still people talking, but I don't know, I haven't been here for too long.

Re: Pollama dying?

I have a hard time believing it. The Stats is saying something completely different.

We get more members per month then for a half year ago. Our max online at one time is 93, 01-27-2008 at 01:07 AM. Active members is pretty high then most clan boards, 391, e.g. we have 391 members that logs in every week and post.
And with 61,832 posts I don't think people isn't posing. Hell I can't almost use "New Posts" anymore due to all the posting.

In E.U. timezone the boards are quiet, but that is alright. I just fix the board while U.S. sleep or go to work.

So I don't think PoLlama is dying any time soon.

1. These members never post. Same thing has pretty much been going on since PoLlama was created.

2. Used to be around 180. Max online really doesn't matter anyway, as anytime a new max online record is set, it consists of mostly bots.

3. 391? From an estimation, I'd have to say 30 sounds about right. Maybe a bit more.

4. Don't you think those "61,832" posts were made in early-mid '07, when PoLlama was much more popular and active?

I'm not saying it's not active now, but I know for a fact it's not nearly as active as it used to be. Btw, that chart looks like it records how many people have viewed this site. This takes us back to the bots issue :P

No. The stats is for all the time. 93 is the highest on recorded, and it does not count bots in that. Otherwise we would have broken 120 or more as Yahoo have like 15 bots on at the same time.

I don't think vB stats is lying. The people who login in every week is counted as active users. So 391 users is login in every week. Sounds about right for board with 3,247 registered users, e.g. around 1/10 of the members.

Again that is for the all time of this board. Besides if PoLlama were dying it wouldn't have 100 posts yesterday. Lots of other forums would cut of their left arm to get 100 posts per day.

Posts per day from 01 January to the 24 March 2008:

More active before!? We have never had so high posts per day, the amount of new members posting, amount of active users, number of threads per day.
How can you see through the numbers?!

PoLlama have never been better. It might just be your board is slow but overall PoLlama is doing better. Even Google agrees:

I might sound harsh but I don't like when people says that PoLlama have been better or isn't good as before.

People stop saying that. PoLlama is great and is becoming better.

It is like OL. Only 0.000002% of the worlds population is in it while the 99.999998% is watching. At least our ration is 1:10.

Re: Pollama dying?

I believe zero here, we have more active members. Such as typewriter and cookie. But there was a period there was nearly no activity. Old members like ogre and titan stopped posting. (well titan is active sometimes..) But as zero said, hard to say in E.U time that he was not online. I don't think Pollama is dying, but as i remembered the last summer holiday it was way more active. but that's just normal, because nobody has anything to do then :P
Also i only post in a couple of sections. And so only see a couple of sections.

Re: Pollama dying?

Yeah, I don't think many people at all posted a lot right after the move. But now we should be good.

PS: If we REALLY want to hit record numbers, apples should release ULTF right before summer

Re: Pollama dying?

To go along with this dying analogy.

I highly doubt Pollama is even sick, and if it were the best bet would be to give it medicine, not talk about how sick Pollama is.

So what should the pessimists who believe Pollama is on it's deathbed do? Post like there's no tomorrow (but don't be stupid random posts, please).

I think the mapmaking part of Pollama has slowed a bit (I've only seen 1 new project since I arrived, there could be more but I don't check that section very often) but the other parts are still kicking. A good example I think is the Thinking Cap, within a week after its creation it had almost a full page of threads, all active!!

Now to address the "mapmaking problem". Start offering mapmaking clans to join Pollama as a forum (if they already have a forum, DO NOT POST THERE ASKING THEM TO JOIN, it will turn out horribly, trust me) if we had any active mapmaking clans (3+ would be great), we'd have many more maps and such posted on here!!

Well that got a little away from me, as most things do, but at least we know NOT TO POST ON A CLAN'S PRIVATE FORUM TO ASK THEM TO JOIN OURS.

Re: Pollama dying?

Ehrm, Battle Mages just came here a while ago, and there a few people that came from there, but unfortunately only me and Echonian post anywhere else other then Battle mages / Clan COM. And Clan COM just joined a while back as well. I don't know how many clans/projects are supposed to join, but yeah, theres still a few joining ^_^.

Also, looking at Zeros charts, it looks like Pollama is doing fine.

Pollama is nowhere near dying. I can see it continue to gain members untill the summer which it may plateau, do to people having a life (jobs among other things).

Re: Pollama dying?

I think the forum will explode in popularity after starcraft 2 is released. The site will become a haven for mappers and I think there's some great potential. (maybe a victory over epicwar, etc. will happen if the move to starcraft 2 is quick and painless)
