A Clan LSI project: Sword & Shield - Battle of Tannenberg!

Introducing a Clan LSI Project: Sword & Shield - the Battle of Tannenberg!

~Lolwut?~

So a guy named James, a llama, and a purple poot were sitting at a bar --- and it's no joke! While sitting all together in a channel one day, the llama suggested a group project of some sort - one both uber fun but simple enough for the common people to heartily crowd around an enjoy, as well as able to finish in a relatively short time! Not only that, but lingering behind came the idea that being a simple map with an established system in one small area, a future series may come about....With all parties in agreement, we knew that united our mapmaking prowess would establish a pillar of awesomeness, and thus the Clan LSI project Sword & Shield: Battle of Tannenberg came into existence!

~Gameplay~

S&S: Battle of Tannenberg will have a unique gameplay system both fun and engaging, yet simple enough so that even the Inferouses of battle.net will be able to understand on the fly (, xD)! The Sword and Shield series basically represents various major medieval battles and skirmishes, in which players on their respective teams control the forces of the struggling armies in an attempt at victory!

Thus mainly, the unique spectrums of Battle of Tannenberg will include:

=Amazing Historicality!=
-Completely historical terrain
-Historical Armies/troop compositions
-Unique Generals/Leaders from the very battle!

=Incredible Strategic implementations!=
-A unit-squad system [in which only one unit, the captain, is controlled in order to control an entire squad of 12 units]
-Terrain advantage system
-Various Unit abilities such as cavalry charges and spearmen phalanxes
-Flanking bonus damage
-Morale system

And much much more!

Sword & Shield: Battle of Tannenberg can be equated to the exact skirmish of Rome Total War of Medieval Total War - an epic realization of tactics and medieval skirmishing.

~Historical Background~

The First Battle of Tannenberg, also known as the Battle of Grunwald (not to be confused with the WW1 battle) occurred in 1410 as the conflict between the Teutonic Order and the Polish-Lithuanian union reached its climax. On July 15, 1410, Polish-Lithuanian and Teutonic troops clashed in Prussia (modern-day Poland) in what would be one of the greatest battles ever known in medieval history, in which around 25,000 Teutons struggled agains the Polish coalition of 32,000 , marking this as the largest medieval skirmish recorded.

~=Background=~

Founded around late 12th Century CE, the Teutonic Order originally held control over the Ports of Acre in Jerusalem throughout the Crusades, playing a strong role in the Holy Wars against the Muslim heretics. However, as the Mameluks crushed the crusaders once again and retook Jerusalem, the Teutons moved into the Balkan regions to fight against the Cuman Islamic infidels.

Later on around the eve of the 13th century, at the order of the Pope and with the plea for aid from Konrad of Masovia, the Teutonic order moved to join in the crusades against the Prussian pagans. Soon, after their successes against the pagans, the Pope issued a papal edict granting the Teutons land in the Prussian and Baltic regions. The Teutonic Order found itself growing in influence as it expanded in the region through its series of victories against the various tribes there.

In the year 1385, the Union of Kreva created the Polish-Lithuanion union in which the two kingdoms joined together in a joint force, as both recognized the threat they faced against the Teutonic Order. Meanwhile, King Jogailla converted to Christianity - nonetheless, the Teutons continued carrying out its holy wars against what they deemed "the pagan prussians," of which the Poles and Lithuanians continually fell victim to.

Finally, in 1409, they decided that they had had enough, and that their armies were ready. Poland-Lithuania declared war upon the Teutonic Knights following the Teutonic invasions of greater Poland. Armies soon massed from both sides near the city of Tannenberg/Grunwald - both sides knew the importance of this battle, and troops from all over Europe knew and that they would have to partake in this decisive struggle, as the consequences would impact all of Europe: the victor of this battle would be lord of all eastern europe. The Teutonic Knights, having strong relations with the nations of the west as well as the Pope, soon received knights, mercenaries, and crusaders from England, France, Germany, and Italy - meanwhile, the Poland-Lithuanians were joined by the Serbians, Moldavians, Bohemians, Russians, and even the Tartars from the far-off Russian steppes. Inevitably, that July 15th, a battle known around the world would occur - and while historically the Polish triumphed over the Teutons in a blow that so utterly crushed that Teutonic Order into it's demise, ultimately, in Shield and Sword, this battle will be decided by YOU!

wtf? rome was gone by 1000bc. this is in 1490.

anyways, i like the idea! may i suggest that you also try doing the Siege of Acre in the crusades? that's my favorite medieval battle. (not counting the Scottish revolution, but that's a little overused)

Siege of acre sounds like a good one, so you'll might see it as the next in the series if we ever get the series jumpstarted! :P

what's your problem? just because it's realistic doesn't make it a 'total war' game.

PS: the battle of Agincourt is also huge, with the english having 12000 troops. (can't remember the french army size)
