Help my masculinity - Mage Question

Evening gents.

I play this great RPG with a friend of mine, and although we're good friends, I feel sorely underpowered when playing with him.

He plays a Samurai and I play a Calculator. Now, he can solo any boss or monster in the Night Elf Forest area, but all I can do is run in and get kerplunked pretty quickly. I'm starting to get emasculated here!

Can any of you give me some tips as to how I should be playing the Mage classes if I want to match my more melee-minded friend?

Well, final mage class is going to pwn him.. >.>
What version do you play?
Why don't you register?
Maybe you need more health/armor, and if you havn't already, get your chemist/squire to level 50, then i assure you (if you hadnt done so already) that you will beat ur friend.

I play Version 8.8.0,
I have registered as you wish,
and I shall try mastering Chemist as you suggest.

And much appreciated for registering.
also, consider mastering squire (even though you are mage), but if you are reluctant, level one of the next level mages.
