MrApples has a spectacular aura about
PoLlama's Appearance - Speak Out!

I just want some real reviews on our sites navigation, appearance, and structure. Feel free to use other sites to give examples of what you prefer.

For example, a month or less ago I made it so the icons for topics only displayed if something other than default was chosen, and that the topic starters name was placed underneath the topic's name. Did you like this change? Did you not? Would you rather have it neither?

And for posts, I'm considering putting user's info above the post instead of on the side. Would you like this?

Remember everyone, the skies the limit, if you have a suggestion, even if you think it can't be done, suggest it anyway. We want the forum to be as easy-to-use and comfortable as possible, so if theres a change you think that should be done, speak up!

I need your feedback, especially new members!

PS. I haven't forgotten about the signature problem.

Re: PoLlama's Appearance - Speak Out!

I think displaying the poster's info on top is something that has to be tried first to give an opinion on. And I like the name under the topic idea. Because usually you look at the title of the topic and you don't need to move your eye much to tell who made the topic.

The new nav bar has only one problem but it's not that annoying. When you first enter PoLlama in a new window. You see everything at once. Anyone can easily just refresh the page or just click random tabs to return it back to normal but people new to the site might not know that.

One thing I would like to see would be more stuff in the shop. Unfortunately I don't know what you can or can not do. But one thing that would be cool is if it's possible to make more personal stuff that you can upgrade your account. Like if you are just a regular member then you have to buy to be able to use color text. Because pretty much the shop isn't really used much. Next to karma boost the change other user title is only used in flaming other members. The rock still doesn't nothing.

I'm not sure if this is possible but is it possible to get a better karma system going? Like take out the karma boost in the shop and reset all the karma. So everyone can get a clean new start. Something more like the rep system in VBulletin. But if we do make the poster's info on top of the post then is it possible to make little bars for the rep as well?

Ummm....

If this is already possible then I haven't found it.

But you could be able to see all the places you posted?

Without going through forum and such.

Something I hatea with this site. I just switched to 1 meg download and 128 kb/s up due to money problems. It takes forever to load.....

Also I hate how when you finish posting it brings you to the topics section instead of viewing your post.

--------------------------------

And its hard to see the new posts. They should be in bold or highlighted or something..

Anyways thanks for reading just my little opinion :O

Do you have your cache trun on?
PoLlama's default theme is a pain in the ass. Uses like billions of 1Mb pictures. I changed to the 'core' theme and turned me cache on for Pollama. Loads a lot faster now.

Yeah I question Apples choice of default options also.
Anyway check your settings.
(Look & Layout Options -> Check this option: Return to topics after posting by default.)

There is a little (new) sign right beside the topic if there is new replies since you last time checked. Also try press user in your Assistant. Then press Show replies or Show unread. Show replies show topic you have replied to and there is new since your post. Show unread is every topic, since your last time, there has been a reply to.

Hope it help

Strangely enough, PoLlama is one of the fastest sites I go to. So it's most likely your problem and not the site's. But you should take Mr. Zero's advice and switch to another theme. I'm actually wondering why PoLlama is so fast for me. I cache other sites but this is far the fastest.

Re: PoLlama's Appearance - Speak Out!

The load time is fine for me. Something that you kinda should fix up is the Assistant / Navigation buttons. Heres what i think should be fixed:
Assistant
• Recent - the numbers from 1-7 dont seem to do anything.
Navigation
• Images - links to the forum home :P
• Help - makes a help button appear near home / forum / account, instead of going to help.
• Files - its empty. It says 'Unavailable'
Display
• The buttons (for me) are overlapping each over which doesnt look great.
• They should be changed to look similar to the Home / Forum / Account buttons above as they look alot better.

Also i like the way member info is displayed atm. On the side is good.

Theres my 2 cents.

Re: PoLlama's Appearance - Speak Out!

this is my homepage so it has to open pollama AND the internet and it's basically instant. if i open a new tab with another topic, it doesn't even LOAD! it's right there when you click on it. most other sites take much longer. anyways, i like the current assistant type thingy because it's organized and i can see what i'm looking for!

That's weird because it works fine with me. It's suppose to show the next set of new posts. But I suggest using the Show Unread under User. It's much easier for me.

We used to have a gallery but it became unavailable when PoLlama switched servers. In my opinion someone should get a server and use Copper-Mine. Then just link it to PoLlama.

That's weird.

That's a problem everyone is having and it's not that important because we have the download center.

That's a personal opinions but don't worry because I remember MrApples saying he would rework the Nav.

You just gave me a good idea.

Re: PoLlama's Appearance - Speak Out!

I only regularly go to five different sites. One is this, two are comics, which don't take long to look at, and the other two are email pages. This is the one that i would spend the most time at of those five, because forums seem to take longer to look at than comics. Yup, that's real sad...

When you're looking into a forum and you're supposed to have a forum tree just top of the forum's square but it's like at top overlapping your 0 pm message.

I actually tried to make that record and I'm still trying to make the record for the first person to stay on for a month's worth. I refresh the page about every 5 or so minutes everyday. I have this weird disorder of thinking time moves much faster then it really does. Short times like minutes, not longer times like hours. So I honestly refresh thinking 40 mins has past. But it's still said none the less. The only thing that makes this less sad is the fact that it explains my high post counts.

Yeah I notice that now that you mentioned it. Happens when there is something long in the topic's name.

Re: PoLlama's Appearance - Speak Out!

Ok, been on vacation(sort of) sorry.

>Our slower people. (Connection wise)
I'll look into supporting less demanding themes. CORE is actually not supported, but it works regardless. This will mean little or no mods, but we don't really need those though.

If you have a good connection and are having problems (like I am, believe it or not), then its something else. When I figure that one out, I'll let ya know.

• Recent - the numbers from 1-7 don't seem to do anything.
Our navigation bar requires JavaScript. AdBlockers commonly shut this off, so just make a exception for pollama.com, if thats the problem.

• The buttons (for me) are overlapping each over which doesnt look great.
What do you mean... if your refering to the Assistant they are meant to overlap a little.

I tihnk names of users should be made more apparent in threads, as I can almost never see people's names.

Also, I think the text could use a 1-up size. Maybe it's just the forum colors, but everything looks dreadfully small. (in threads and when making posts, mainly)

And black on black on yellow with masses of white text is eyeburning after a while... We need new themes (Wc3campaigns.net has lots of them if you want ideas.)

This is also a little off topic, but I don't tihnk the bank's intrest system works, as i've yet to gain a speck of extra cash.

To the first thing, they could be bigger, yes.

To the second paragraph, You can actually change that in your internet settings.

What i have to say is that the badges should go back up above the avatars. That way, the people with things like "The Bestest" can have that make sense, and it looks much better that way.

It's really just this site that has an issue. Any other is fine. I think it might just be the color contrasts.
