About Ultimate Footmen

The Ultimate Footmen project as of recently has been a complete mess. VG's betrayal, many dysfunctional teamates, really big bugs, and a huge influx of ideas/popularity along with delay have smashed our organization into tiny little pieces. I'm sure many of you have given up on us by now.

Anyways, everything that could go wrong has, and to fix this we need to basically 'reboot' the project. The next version will be released 'incomplete', even though alot of the content is almost ready, just to avoid running into more problems.

The next version will include the following...
-Many balances/fixes
-The balance code (I may actually add this in without being able to decode it... yet )
-Team setup
-Universal hotkeys
-A very thorough rewrite/cleasing of the map to fight lag.
-Some other stuff.

The next version will not include the following...
-Many balances/fixes
-Replacement spells
-New Heroes(except the ancient treant)
-Player Profiles
-Some other stuff.

Its not that we haven't made the content, most of it is almost done, we just need to get a as much as we can, solid, version out there. And the rest will be added over the next few versions, which will be released much more frequently to avoid these messes from now on.

The team setup is included because its something that will seperate us from the rest, guaranteed. The balance code is included because it will benefit all future versions. And the hotkeys are included because it would be a pain not to include them.

The lag cleaning was what I felt, was most needed. I've invented a completly new spawning system(even newer then the new one, vg), which makes really no lag at all and is very useful. We've deleted over 200 objects from the map by replacing Summons/Transforms with 'virtual copies' using the 'Summon Manager' which will speed up the loading time by alot, and the map progress. This of course is bound to have problems, but we will fix them.

And well... some other stuff. I felt it was a good idea to leave player profiles out for now just to warn players of it and what's to come prior to actually adding it in. That and this is something that can't be rushed at all, because you can't just 'rewrite' it. That it for now.

The above may change at any time. UPDATE: Lunar's harddrive crashed, his work was lost.

Funny how your incomplete version will be much more complete then most other Footmen Wars map out there. Also I'm currious on how you did the team setup. Because if you do different teams then you would have to change the terrain. The stuff I learned is that in order to do that you would have to make a FFA map and then change the terrain from there. But that's what I heard. Also I'm still kind of confused in the Summon Manager part. But still look forward to it. Also for future reference. Over the past month or so I found out that Warcraft is a game. And games are suppose to be fun. The whole VG Emblem and MrApples thing made me lose sight that Warcraft is suppose to be for fun and not war. And also I plan to do a lot of things like make my own footmen wars map and become a mapper myself. MrApples never ever leave Ultimate Footmen. From what I heard DotA became popular because it wanted to be popular so it kept updating and now it's the leading map on Warcraft. So my message to you is to don't give up on Ultimate Footmen and not only will it beat Footmen Frenzy's popularity but it will also even start to challange DotA for king's crown. Which would make DotA work harder to make it's game better and then you would work even harder and then the gamers are happy because they got two good games.

The best time would be before Footmen Frenzy 6.0 comes out. They might not have the better map but they have the bigger fanclub that would easily over power Ultimate Footmen. If Ultimate Footmen is released first then people would play it first. Then when they compare it with Footmen Frenzy 6.0 then Ultimate Footmen would win. Which is good because the Ultimate Footmen forums are very unactive.

many heros made it into this version...i'm working on adding like 8-9 more heros for upcoming versions. dont worry about it Archer.

MrApples - Pretty much oversees everything but mainly works on the core being of Ultimate footmen like the triggers and stuff.
MoonRazer(me ) - Heros and Spells
LunarDiviner(having some, well alot, of trouble w/ Lunar) - works on a few heros, but mostly touches up stuff in the Object Editor.

Yeah. Because you worked on Ultimate Footmen you probablely saw it a lot of times. So how well do you think it would go against Footmen Frenzy if it was released right now?

Acctually i've never seen the map itself before. i've made a couple maps designed to test out spells/heros. so i have not seen everything in effect. but if we put what we have finished all together we have one great map. The great thing about MrApples being the head of Ultimate Footmen is the way he thinks. the stuff he thinks about, not just the big picture but some of the little stuff as well. Take universal hotkeys for example. i would have never thought of that in a thousand years but he did. its great too, not having to memorize what hotkeys to use for what spell. I really havn't played Footmen Frenzy much. i've played like once or twice a long time ago, so i dont know what they play like. but i can honestly say that Ultimate Footmen is a friggen kickass map. it would take a lot to beat it. And just so you know, when the new versions that come out that have what we've all been working on, it will be worth the wait. The map will be unbelivable to play. Once we get past the "rage" of releasing the new version, we can work on some other changes that MrApples has talked about that would possible revolutionize Footmen Wars. Keep your hopes up, in time you'll be rewarded for this.

Actually I thought about universial hotkeys. I even suggested it on VG Emblem's forum but no one cared about it. I thought about it after I played a unofficial footmen frenzy map which had it. It was like QWER or something like that. But for the univerisal hot keys I think it would be a good idea not to put them to close together because that would also make it easy to press the wrong key. So make them in what the person in-charge of the universial hotkeys' comterable hand position. Also Footmen frenzy is planing something completely new for their 6.0 versions. Counter Tiers and replaced armor upgrades with hp upgrades I think. But the team-set up system itself makes it better among the rest of the footmen wars map. I'm really wondering how MrApples did it. One really cool thing would be instead of making your base have devotion aura that helps out when your base gets attacked. You should hve special auras for the race tiers. That would be cool and it would encourage players not to all tech the same thing.

hmm thats an interesting idea.

you mean like when you upgrade to Undead you get something similar to undead aura w/ the regen and ms
but when u upgrade Night Elf, you might get like a atk speed upgrade with a thorns aura mixed in?

i just pulled those ideas off the top of my head for examples, but u mean like so each race has a different aura? it might be pretty cool to also upgrade the aura when u upgrade the tier. hmm. thats a good idea Shadow

Yeah and if you really think about it. Most teams will tech to what they believe is the best tier. And if there is some imbalance then they will tech all the same. But if different tiers race gives different auras then they would tech to what would most help out their hero or heroes. So more stategy would be needed.

But the thing is I would like to have ideas for the auras before actually make a topic. So then people will have an idea on what the idea is. Why it would help this race more then other races. How does this help the hero out. And why would people like this. First want to get these things down.

Well if u want any ideas, i thought of a few, think on these.


Human - Small Devotion Aura; Magic Pulse[Every intervel pulses a magic wave that damages all enemy units in rage(closer to building, more damage)]
Orc - Major MS boost with a drain aura that leeches enemy hp and gives it to main building
Night Elf - An increase in atk speed with a "hide" aura.(where it gives the hide ability to each unit in range)
Undead - Atk/Move speed boost(Small, not very significant) with a major regen boost

what do u think of those? they seem to fit a little, and they wont be too hard to make either.

Yeah I think I will use those auras for the idea. People might decide to change it a little later on. But this week is a busy week. Mainly because I have this project that I have to work on. I'll make it on the weekend. Also gives me more time to think about it.

WHAT!!!!!????? Oh come on. What is up with map makers and their computer harddrive crashing? It happened to VG Emblem and now Luner Diviner. MrApples and MoonRazer. Better save Ultimate Footmen on a disk or something right now just in case your's crashes also.
